How to get rid of dry skin simple and efficiently

Contamination, temperature changes, tanning and make-up all contribute to dry skin. See what you can do to better take care of your skin and keep it nice and soft.

Dry skin often-times feels tight. It may flake and typically appear at the nose and forehead. The skin might also look matt. Itching, redness or roughness are typical symptoms of skin that needs more hydration. How can you get rid of the problem?

Your skin struggle to maintain the natural hydration

There are several reasons why you get dry skin. Changes in temperature is a sinner, and we have a bad habit of overdoing hygiene routines by using too much soap, which dries the skin quite efficiently. From nature’s side we have this layer consisting of fat and oil in our skin. If the sebum production gets too low, your skin will be sensitive for outer stress.

Skin and body therapist Elisabeth Lian at Neroli Skincare in Oslo says we separate between two types of dry skin: lack of fat/oil, and lack of hydration. Both causes unhealthy skin. She recommends seeking advice from experts because so many of us by and apply the wrong type of products. Even though your skin feels tight it isn’t necessarily lack of fat in your skin. If you apply at fat cream to reduce dryness at that situation you will only make it worse.

It can be hard to determine the real problem your skin struggles with. Seek advice from experts to get the right tips for your exact skin type.

Skin is complicated

Dry skin isnt just dry skin. You might even have a combination of both fat and dry skin. Perhaps is the skin at your nose and forehead fat, while your cheeks are dry. This makes it extra challenging to find and establish good skincare routines on your own. The skin experts do have some general advice that might help:

  • Dry or very dry skin: gentle cleanse morning and night, mild scrub a couple times a week, toner to balance the PH value, products that adds hydration without disturbing the skin’s own hydration balance, sun protection.
  • Shiny/fatty skin with dry areas: Cleanse morning and night, scrub several times a week, pads to reduce sebum at the surface, light day and night cream (that stimulates the skin’s own hydration, not a fatty cream), sun protection.

You can’t always fix the problem yourself

The easiest challenges can be handled by yourself. A good routine and a conscious choice of products might be what it takes to get your skin back on track. But there are also conditions where you should avoid experimenting on your own and instead contact your doctor. This applies to dry skin that is also red and swollen, exudes or serious itching that you can’t see an obvious reason to and that won’t improve.

How to prevent dry skin

  • Use lukewarm water in your shower
  • Mild soap with a low PH value, or a shower oil
  • Pat your skin dry instead of rubbing it
  • Add hydration to your dry skin with the right products
  • Use sun protection all year

Natural aging also affects your skin

Skin problems can occur throughout your life, dry skin being no exception. As we get older, our skin will lose much of its natural ability to stay healthy and strong. The production of collagen, which is the most important protein in our connective tissue, decrease with age. When we no longer have satisfying amounts of collagen and elastin in our skin it will no longer stay tight and elastic. The processes that breaks down our connective tissue also increase with age, resulting in a thinner, weaker skin that loses its glow and becomes wrinkly.

You cannot avoid the reduction in collagen production. Therefore, it becomes increasingly important to add collagen in order to maintain a healthy, strong skin. Collagen is essential for both skin, hair and nails, and make up more than 30% of the body’s total protein composition.

To keep your skin healthy and strong you might benefit from the dietary supplement Royal Tan. The supplement doesn’t just hold larger amounts of beta carotene, which allows you to achieve a deep, lasting tan. It is also rich in collage and may therefore contribute to maintaining a strong and healthy skin. Read more about Royal Tan here.
